Category: Botanical hair growth active
Used in: Haircare, scalp serums, leave-on growth treatments
INCI
Pisum Sativum (Pea) Sprout Extract
Typical Usage Levels
- 1% – 3% in leave-on scalp serums and hair growth formulations
Used at optimized levels to influence follicular signaling rather than providing surface-level conditioning.
What This Ingredient Does
Pea sprout extract is a plant-based bioactive obtained from the sprouts of Pisum sativum. Sprouting significantly increases the concentration of growth-related phytonutrients and signaling compounds within the plant.
In hair biology, pea sprout extract is studied for its ability to support follicular stem cell signaling and prolong the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. By influencing pathways involved in hair cycle regulation, it helps delay the transition from the growth phase to the regression (catagen) and shedding (telogen) phases.
Clinical and in vitro studies indicate that pea sprout extract can help reduce hair fall, support denser-looking hair, and improve overall hair vitality when used consistently. Its mechanism is non-hormonal and does not interfere with androgen pathways, making it suitable for both men and women.
In topical haircare, pea sprout extract functions as a growth-supporting botanical, complementing other follicular actives rather than acting as a standalone stimulant.
