Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3/8)

INCI: Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 (also listed as Acetyl Hexapeptide-8)

Trade Name: Argireline

Category: Neuropeptide / Expression Line Active

Used in: Serums, eye creams, forehead treatments, expression-line formulas

Typical Usage Level (Topical): 5-10%

What This Ingredient Does

Argireline is a peptide commonly used in anti-ageing skincare to help reduce the appearance of expression lines caused by repeated facial movements, such as smiling, frowning, or squinting.

It works by helping relax the signals involved in facial muscle contractions, making lines on areas such as the forehead and around the eyes appear softer over time. Because it is applied topically, its effects are much milder than cosmetic injectables and require consistent use for visible results.

Argireline is often combined with other peptides to support smoother-looking skin and a more comprehensive anti-ageing approach.

Also listed under: Peptides Acetyl Hexapeptide-8. Cross-reference for full peptide context.

Key Benefits

  • Partially inhibits acetylcholine release via SNARE complex interference reducing contraction-driven expression lines

  • Effective on forehead lines, crow's feet, and glabellar lines with consistent use

  • Synergistic with Leuphasyl and SYN-AKE for multi-mechanism expression line reduction

  • Well-tolerated; not known sensitisation or systemic absorption at cosmetic concentrations

Who It's Best For

  • Those with moderate expression lines driven by repetitive facial muscle movement

  • Users building a topical neuropeptide routine as a non-invasive maintenance strategy

  • Those between injectable treatments looking to extend results

  • Suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin

Clinical Note by Dr. Su

Argireline is the most evidence-backed topical neuropeptide available, but concentration and vehicle matter significantly. Studies showing efficacy typically use 5–10% in an appropriate aqueous delivery system. Products with trace amounts of Argireline listed at the bottom of an ingredient list will not produce meaningful results. If this is your primary target ingredient, check that it appears in the upper half of the INCI list.
